Guardians Guardians Book 2: The Spark Site and Personal Updates

Guardians: Burning the Book and the Future of William Fall

An update to the state of Guardians and William Fall Writings as a whole. Guardians Book 2: Ch1 will be coming out soon!

Hello friends, I’ve been thinking.

I recently re-read some of the stories I’ve put out onto the website, and I realized something.

Some of them suck. Like they are terrible!

There are short stories I’m unhappy with, but the most prominent thing I dislike is the second book of Guardians. When I was re-reading the series, I thought that I left book one off on a pretty good note, setting up for the rest of the story I wanted to tell. However, I’m four chapters into the twelve chapter book two, and I feel like I’ve gotten off track. Even the plots I still like are filled with typos and other small grammatical mistakes.

Long story short, my quality is all over the place, and my plots are becoming more and more disjointed. And I, for one, am incredibly unhappy with it.

Over the last two years, I’ve rediscovered how exciting writing is for me. When I first started this website, I was a STEM major writing when he was bored. Now I am a Writing and History Major who hopes to publish his first book at the end of this year. Writing has become more than a hobby for me. It’s become an actual career path.

So why am I writing half-baked stories still?

In a perfect world, I’d hire myself an editor, get another pair of eyes on my work and use that to improve it. But I’m a poor college student, and hiring a person is a much more significant commitment than I’m ready to make. And all the people I’d ask to read my stuff as friends are also insanely busy with their own lives.

Luckily there’s a magical place called the internet that builds helpful algorithms that do the basic tasks of an editor, and since the Robot Uprising hasn’t happened (yet), it’s much cheaper as well!

So that’s neat.

Also, there are freelancers that can use their talents to improve the website as a whole, whether that be better artwork than my amateur image editing or helping Willfallwritings.com become a website that search engines can find. I’m incredibly proud of this website and thankful that I have the opportunity to run it. But some extra help on the non-writing bits could give it the push it needs to keep improving.

I want my stories and this website to be the best it can be. Sometimes that might mean I push back the release date of a story not to rush it out. Sometimes I’ll delete old stories or edit them to make sure I’m putting out the best I can. This isn’t just a hobby for me anymore; it’s something I want to do as a real, dare I say, job. And if I’m going to do that, I need some quality control.

The first thing that I’m doing to work towards that goal is to delete and rewrite the second Guardians book. I want to tell this story properly, which means I need to go back to the start of this book and do it right. So the next chapter will be Guardians Book 2: Chapter 1, again.

So that’s why the old book two is gone, It will be back soon, and it will be much better.

I promise

Sorry for the random, somewhat mushy update instead of a new story. I just wanted to express my appreciation and tell you my plans for the site in the future. If you weren’t here, I wouldn’t be here either, so it’s essential to keep you all in the know.

Thanks for reading.

Hi Will,
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it’s best to consider the first take as a first draft and to make a final draft later. William Shakespeare did it all the time. Of course, being a playwright, he got immediate feedback on his work. If the audience was walking out, he knew he had to revise the script. So, just keep at it.
Best regards,
Brian
