Freedom

The man has been trapped in darkness for years, stuck inside the body he once called his own. However, when he is allowed to return to his own eyes, will he like what he sees? or prefer to live in darkness?

A light pierces the eternal darkness, blinding the man who had been trapped for so long. A beautiful, blue, cloudless sky greeted the man’s brown eye as he saw a piece of a mask fall away, revealing the outside world.
He had no control over his motions. His body moved through a burning village. In front of him was a boy with a slingshot. A rock lay on the ground with a piece of a red and white mask next to it. The man watched in horror as his body raised its hand, and a black cloud shot towards the boy. When the air cleared, a burnt stick fell to the ground, the remains of a slingshot, now ownerless.
“No!” Thought the man. His body raised its hands, and a red symbol appeared over his head, sinking downwards. When it made contact with him, he was transported outside a dark stone building. His body marched forwards to the door. Two men dressed in black and red robes opened the door and bowed before him.
“Master Mask,” one of the servants told him, “You’re broken.”
The man’s eye widened as his hand moved without his command to feel his face.
“I’ve been injured.” His voice spoke out, undertoned with a gravely deep second voice.
He enters the building and stands in front of a mirror. One ice blue eye stared calmly at one panicked brown one.
“Hello.” His voice said again, speaking from the mouth within the gaping smile of the mask, “I never expected you to return.”
The man struggled as his body raised its hand to his face. A golden glow covered the cracked mask’s edges as it slowly expanded over his face, a new eyehole began surrounding the brown eye, and the man looked with utter terror at his own smiling face, hidden just beneath that horrible mask.
“Make peace with your god.” His voice said, and everything went dark again.
